Marcus Smart had a Philadelphia 76ers fan ejected from their Saturday game at the Wells Fargo Center after his verbal altercation during a time-out in the second half.

Smart hasn’t been the one to back down from a fight and the reigning Defensive Player of the Year averaging 11.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 7.0 assists this season, wasn’t taking it when the fans were heckling him and the other players.

The Celtics and the Sixers have always had the sort of rivalry where tempers flaring isn’t news anymore. And with the stakes high this season with both teams jousting for a top seed in the East, the brouhaha seems a bit more than usual.

The game ended 110-107 in favor of the Celtics after Jayson Tatum’s game-winner. However, Joel Embiid nearly sent the game to OT with an incredible full-court shot that came seconds after the buzzer. Philadelphia is yet to beat Boston in its three encounters so far this season.

The Boston Celtics Have Been The Team To Beat This Season

Placed first in the East with a 44-17 record, the Boston Celtics have been the team to beat this season. With Joe Mazzulla now named permanent head coach for his stellar mentoring, the outfit is primed to go the distance.

It was a solid run for Boston last year as well as they made the finals after being one of the clinical teams in the East, only to be pipped by a more formidable Golden State Warriors side.

This time around, the Celtics have been led admirably by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, now regarded as one of the best duos in the league. Tatum has been on a tear this season averaging 30.4 points, 8,7 rebounds, and 4.6 assists, and is on track to make his case for MVP.

Up next, they face the New York Knicks on Monday before returning home on Wednesday for a skirmish with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
