The 2022-23 NBA season has been quite the strange one so far, in the sense that everyone seems to be capable of beating everyone. Unlike last season, when the Phoenix Suns ran away with the best record in the league, no one has really stood out as a consistently dominant force this time around.
The Boston Celtics were perhaps the ones who many thought would be that team, but they have stumbled at times after their impressive 21-5 start. They just about clung on to the best record in the NBA entering the All-Star break at 42-17, but that means we might get to witness something that hasn’t happened in over two decades.
The Celtics are currently on pace for 58 wins this season, which means that 2022-23 could be the first full season since 2000-01 to not have a single team win 60 games.

The NBA is in their 56th season since switching to an 82-game schedule. Four seasons were disrupted due to lockouts and the pandemic.
In 52 82-game seasons (including this one) only seven have had no 60-win seasons:
68-69
73-74
75-76
76-77
77-78
78-79

“The Boston Celtics are on pace to lead the NBA with 58 wins.
If no one wins 60 games, it will be the first time since 2000-01 and that no team wins at least 60 games in a full 82-game season.
2000-01 is the only time in the last 44 seasons that no team won as many as 60 games.”

The Celtics along with the Bucks and Nuggets do still have somewhat of a shot at getting to 60. The Celtics would need to go 18-5 from here on out while the Bucks, winners of 12 straight, would need to go 19-5. The Nuggets, meanwhile, have a smaller margin for error as they would have to go 19-4. Injuries have had something to do with this, but at the same time, it also speaks to the parity in the league.
Looking Back At The 2000-01 Season
The San Antonio Spurs led the way in 2000-01 with a 58-24 record and there were 10 teams that went on to win at least 50 games that season, which would make you think there was a great deal of competition. That wasn’t the case when the playoffs came around though as Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant helped the Los Angeles Lakers defend their title in dominant fashion.
The Lakers went 15-1 in the postseason, with a 48-point explosion from Allen Iverson in Game 1 of the NBA Finals denying them a shot at perfection. Still, that team has gone down as one of the greatest ever and that record is second only to the 2017 Golden State Warriors, who went 16-1. There was a lot of debate last season on just which team was better after Stephen Curry claimed they would beat the 2001 Lakers. Here is our take on just who would come out on top in a clash between these two legendary teams.
