The Chicago Bulls find themselves in the last play-in spot in the Eastern Conference, but they are 5.5 games out of the 6th seed, which is the final automatic playoff berth. The team had high expectations after re-signing Zach LaVine, who performed so well last season, but it has been nothing short of a proper disappointment.

The Chicago Bulls have failed to kick on and build from last season. Zach LaVine has been linked with a trade away from the franchise for a long time, and Lonzo Ball’s injury hasn’t helped matters. On top of that, LaVine has had issues with Head Coach Bill Donovan over being benched when he might not have expected it.

Zach LaVine is as good offensively as anyone else and, despite some rough patches, is averaging nearly 24 points per game for the season. Questions have been raised about his ability to deliver for the franchise, but he remains a valued asset for the Bulls. The question does remain, however, about LaVine’s happiness in Chicago.

His fit with DeMar DeRozan has been questioned once more, and most would agree that the Bulls cannot win a championship as they are presently constructed. This has got to sting for Zach LaVine, and his answer in a recent interview about how happy he feels is something that might worry Bulls fans.

Zach LaVine Gave A Non-Committal Answer When Asked About Staying With The Bulls

People were urging the Bulls to trade LaVine and tank for Victor Wembanyama, but the franchise didn’t up any of their good players at the deadline. He was asked by NBC Sports if he is happy staying with the Bulls, and his response was far from clear.

“I signed here to be here for five years. It’s not up to me if I’m here or not. That’s for people above my role. But the franchise committed to me the same way I committed to them. As long as I have a Bulls jersey on, I support Chicago. I always have ever since I got traded here. It’s a franchise that wanted me and has helped my career out.

“You understand the position you’re in—the first year of a contract that people put a label on for some reason. I’m the same player since I came here. That contract didn’t change me.”

The Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks have long been considered potential suitors for LaVine, and the Mavericks might have max space if the Kyrie Irving experiment doesn’t work out. If the Bulls don’t improve quickly, LaVine might just end up leaving the organization soon.
