Andre Roberson isn’t done yet. The guard is aiming to return to the NBA. The 26th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft was acquired by the Oklahoma City Thunder in a draft night trade and has had a six-year stint with the side.

Despite his scintillating skillset, Roberson’s career was riddled with injuries, and now the 31-year-old is targeting an NBA comeback. His run with the Thunder became instrumental when he moved to the starting position after the team lost Kevin Durant.

During his time with Oklahoma, Roberson averaged 4.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 0.9 assists. Presently, he plies his trade for Oklahoma City Blue, the A-team’s G League affiliate. His last NBA game was when he had a brief stretch with the Brooklyn Nets in March 2021.

Optimistic Andre Roberson Believes He’s Got What It Takes To Return To The NBA

Roberson’s return to the court also had analysts and fans theorizing if he was looking for a front-office role. And the guard quashed that notion instantly.

Per Fansided’s Thunderous Intentions, he opined that he would have never returned to play if he intended to sit in the front office.

“I wouldn’t step on the court if I wanted to do that [Be a front office member or coach]” with a chuckle “every time I step on the court I want to play at the highest level.” It is a progression, can not just go from [no minutes to a lot of minutes] right away.”

Kameron Woods, the coach of the OKC Blue was optimistic about having Roberson on the side, whilst also shedding light on his minutes’ restriction. His career has seen him undergo ample surgeries that include rupturing his left patellar tendon. He also endured knee surgery.

“I mean, he is available; he is on the roster. Certainly, when the opportunity presents itself, I have no problem throwing him in; we saw that in the last game. The majority of that will be when it makes sense for both sides…He has had a minute restriction just because it has been away since he has played, but he came out [of last game] unscathed, so I am assuming he will be full go here.”

The Thunder will welcome Roberson if he indeed works his way back to the top. He has the necessary experience that makes him a valuable asset for a team that’s placed 12th in the Western Conference Standings this season despite Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s monumental contributions.

Only time will tell if he indeed makes the comeback he’s hoping for. Safe to say, that will be one heartwarming moment when he does.
