Nets point guard Kyrie Irving went from hero to public enemy number one in New York City.

Just a few weeks after lighting up the NBA with his co-star Kevin Durant, Irving officially requested a trade for the second time in his Nets tenure and it sent the entire basketball world into a tailspin.

In all the madness and chaos of the NBA trade market, we can sometimes forget how these situations impact the actual fans who watch their team every single day.

On Saturday, we got a glimpse into the mind of New Yorkers when Irving’s name was met with a chorus of boos in the pre-game introduction since making his demand.

It’s not Nets fans that Kyrie has a problem with. In reality, this is probably more financially motivated than anything else.

Still, in a season where the Nets looked like legitimate contenders, fans aren’t happy that Kyrie is willing to throw it all away.

Nets Coach Calls Out Irving For Quitting On The Team

The Nets have some solid guys on the roster, but they don’t stand much of a chance to win anything meaningful without Kyrie Irving and it’s going to be hard for the Nets to trade him now that he’s told the world he won’t be coming back.

Before tip-off against the Washington Wizards on Saturday, head coach Jacque Vaughn spoke publicly about Kyrie’s betrayal.

“I think you have a responsibility as a basketball player, like I do as a coach. I show up, I do my job every single day, that’s what I signed up for, and that’s my expectation for one through seventeen.”

At the time of writing, Brooklyn ranks 4th in the East with a 31-20 record through 51 games. They are still very much in the thick of the Eastern playoff picture and were on their way to securing homecourt advantage in the first round.

But since Durant’s injury, things have completely fallen apart for the franchise and they sit on the edge of collapse.

The fans there deserve better after all those years of chaos, and it’s a real shame they will never get to witness what the Nets could accomplish had everything come to fruition.

This is the worst nightmare for every Nets fan, and you can’t blame them for pinning it all on Kyrie.
