Don’t look now, but the Los Angeles Lakers are three games within .500 after a 2-10 start to the season. Somehow, without Anthony Davis on the floor, the Lakers have managed to thrive thanks to the production of guys like LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Dennis Schroder, and Thomas Bryant.
Specifically, the play of Bryant has been most valuable for the Lakers without the presence of AD. His ascension over the past few weeks has changed the mindset in Lakerland and it has LeBron James dreaming of visions with himself, Davis, and the rejuvenated T.B. in the frontcourt together.
“One of the most skilled bigs in this game,” LeBron said on Bryant. “He catches everything. He finishes everything around the rim, but he also has a soft touch from the midrange and the 3-point line. And he just has a huge motor that’s always going on both sides of the floor.”
“I’ve already had visions of what that frontcourt would look like with AD, myself and Thomas.”

The Lakers are still far from where they want to be as a unit, but they’re in a much better position today than they were two months ago. Despite their previous struggles, the Lakers are tied for 10th in the West and are just 2.5 games back from the 5th seed.
If Anthony Davis comes back healthy, who is to say the Lakers don’t have enough to pull off a serious upset?
Anthony Davis Reportedly Nearing His Return After Suffering Foot Injury
There was much doubt and skepticism that the Lakers could keep their season alive without AD for an extended period of time. But the team has done well in his absence and put themselves in a position to make a run when their superstar comes back at full strength.
Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis, who is rehabbing a stress injury to his right foot, will be taking a significant step forward in a few days by testing out his foot on the court in an individual workout, league sources tell Bleacher report.
This is one of the assignments in the ramp-up process before Davis is cleared for contact drills and then ultimately given the green light to rejoin his teammates for practices.
Davis is progressing well with minimal pain, sources say.
Whether or not this level of play is sustainable for the Lakers, they are proving why the front office should make a move and salvage what’s left of the season.
If Rob Pelinka plays his cards right and brings in some much-needed help around his stars, the Purple and Gold may start looking very different than the team we’ve grown accustomed to watching this season.
For now, they’ll have to rely on players like Thomas Bryant to power them through this particularly tough stretch of the season.
