Somehow, the Los Angeles Lakers have managed to cling to life without Anthony Davis. After a 2-10 start to the season, nobody thought for a second that the Purple and Gold could keep themselves afloat with AD gone for over a month.
But the Lakers have actually held their own over this recent stretch and haven’t even lost a game since the New Year. Now, the latest report from L.A. indicates that Davis could be on the verge of making his comeback.

Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis, who is rehabbing a stress injury to his right foot, will be taking a significant step forward in a few days by testing out his foot on the court in an individual workout, league sources tell Bleacher report.
This is one of the assignments in the ramp-up process before Davis is cleared for contact drills and then ultimately given the green light to rejoin his teammates for practices.
Davis is progressing well with minimal pain, sources say.
With the emergence of Thomas Bryant in Davis’ absence, the Lakers are optimistic that they’ll be even better once whole and poised for a playoff push. The Lakers are 17-21, sitting 12th in the Western Conference standings.
Despite major pressure to make a move, the Lakers have avoided any trades so far this season, resigned to letting LeBron James play this season out with the current roster.
But with how well they’ve been playing lately and Anthony Davis looking closer to his return, there is a sense that they should really try to move those for some more talent.
Lakers Looking For Another Star To Add Alongside LeBron James And Anthony Davis
The trade market this season market isn’t particularly built for the Lakers to succeed, but it’s no secret they have some potential trade targets in mind as the deadline approaches.
The Lakers and LeBron, as painful as the short term is, have to get the next move right. Or James’ suffering might not necessarily be contained to the rest of his 20th season.
Some rival teams believe that the Lakers want to try to keep their two most coveted trade assets in case a currently unforeseen shot to trade for a legitimate third star — like Washington’s Bradley Beal — materializes suddenly.
Unless the Lakers find a star that moves the needle in a significant way for them, they are unlikely to make a move that hurts their potential to get better in the future.
But if Anthony Davis comes back healthy and reverts back to the MVP form he was at early on, the Lakers might not even need a trade to put themselves in a respectable position.
