We have seen some truly incredible numbers being put up in the NBA this season. The rules of the game today definitely make it easier to fill up that stat sheet, but the fact of the matter is that the players are now more skilled than they have ever been.

Just in the last couple of weeks, we have seen Luka Doncic put up an insane 60-point triple-double, Donovan Mitchell explode for 71 points, and just a day after that, Giannis Antetokounmpo racked up 55 points. Amidst these ridiculous scoring outbursts, CJ McCollum wanted to remind the world that James Harden was putting up numbers like this when he was on the Rockets.

(starts at 12:35 mark):

“I think at this stage I’m just numb to everything. You just expect crazy stuff to happen like Luka was doing 60-point triple-doubles and we’re talking about it more now than we ever before but I do want to go on the record of saying James (Harden) was doing stuff like this regularly. Not 70s, but he was putting up 50. He’d have a week where he’d go 55, 54, 50 with triple-doubles and we just didn’t really even talk about it.”

We spoke about Luka’s 60-point triple-double, well Harden is the only other player to ever do it. He put up some insane numbers in his last two full seasons with the Houston Rockets but wasn’t given the same love that the players are getting today because he wasn’t getting it done in the playoffs.

James Harden Could Return To The Rockets

Harden’s exit from the Rockets definitely was messy, and you couldn’t really see a scenario where he’d end up back there. Last month, however, reports started circulating that he could return to the Rockers after this season.

Harden, for his part, refuted the report and said he’s happy with the Sixers. That is what he was always going to say, so it isn’t much of a surprise. It would be interesting to see how he fits alongside their young core if he does go there and if the Rockets land the no. 1 pick and draft Victor Wembanyama, then they would be a proper headache to deal with.
