Glen Davis got to experience success right away in the NBA, as he won a championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008 as a rookie. The 2007-08 Celtics were loaded with talent and strong personalities, but there was one man who stood out from the pack.

Kevin Garnett was the driving force behind the Celtics’ dominance, and he was as intimidating off the court as he was on it. Garnett pulled no punches and loved to talk trash, something Davis got to experience on his very first day with the team.

“My first pick-up games, I was guarding KG at the time and he like, cussed me the f*** out like, I shoot a shot right, it’s my first day, I make it and I’m telling myself ‘Get up, get it up.’ I’m talking to myself. He like ‘F***ing ass**** who you talking to?’ I’m thinking to myself like, okay, I need to respond, so I’m like, ‘I’m just trying to get my swag.’ I just say to him politely, though and he’s like, ‘F*** your swag.” I’m looking around like I gotta say something and then you know I say, ‘F*** your swag.’ And he looking at me like, ‘Yeah, okay.'”

“I was just like, damn I really said f*** your swag to KG like, my first day. Hopefully, he just leave it there (and) don’t bring it up tomorrow. So, I try to meet him at the waffle station right? That’s the easiest place to talk to somebody and he doesn’t say nothing to me while he’s making his waffle. That’s scary you know, he said nothing to me the whole day and then I was like f*** it, I’m going to talk to him and I was like, ‘I’m sorry, I thought we left that over yesterday.’ I apologize man to man and he’s like, ‘You know what young fella. I like you man, it’s all good bro, you good.'”

You can’t blame him for getting scared there after just joining the team. Getting on the bad side of a star player is the last thing you want to do, but Garnett probably liked the fact that Davis talked back to him. It showed that the rookie could hold his own, which would have pleased Garnett.

Kevin Garnett Praised LeBron James For Defying Father Time

Garnett and his Celtics enjoyed some epic battles against LeBron James, first with the Cleveland Cavaliers and then with the Miami Heat. While all the other main protagonists from those matchups are retired or out of the league, James is still going strong after all these years.

KG and LeBron clearly weren’t on great terms with each other in the past, thanks to the high-pressure situations they faced off in, but Garnett can now just sit back and appreciate greatness when he sees it. He recently marveled at James putting on a show against the Atlanta Hawks and stated that LeBron is redefining Father Time.
