The Los Angeles Lakers are in dire need of top players in the coming years and the Golden State Warriors might just be looking to the future beyond their current core. The Warriors became a dynasty when they won their 4th ring in 8 seasons earlier this year, but Draymond Green and Klay Thompson have both been linked with moves away from the franchise in the coming seasons.

Klay Thompson and Draymond Green have been underwhelming to start the season, they haven’t been able to do all that much about the Warriors‘ struggles. Draymond Green has already been linked with a move to the Lakers multiple times. And now, according to an anonymous NBA executive that spoke to Heavy, Klay Thompson could also be considering a move to Los Angeles.

“He could consider it,” a Western Conference executive, speaking under the guise of anonymity, informed Deveney. “You know, he grew up with his dad as a player, mostly for the Lakers, so they’re a team he could look to leave for.”

While it’s hard to imagine Thompson in any other uniform, it seems the Lakers aren’t the only team he has his eye on. According to the same executive, Klay could potentially leave as a free agent for another Western Conference rival as well.

“And he grew up near Portland, so the Blazers, there has been talk he wants to play for them.”

Klay Thompson’s shooting numbers this season aren’t what they used to be, but he has shown at times that he can still get back to his best. He becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2024 when he will be 34, but his talent means he will still be valued quite a bit. Although the Warriors will want to keep him around as well.

Anonymous Executive Claims It Is Hard To See Klay Thompson Leaving The Warriors Considering How Much They Love Him

Klay Thompson has been an integral part of the Warriors dynasty, his whole career has been with Golden State. So while he mentioned the teams he might join, the executive did say that there would be plenty of reasons for him to stay.

“But really, he is kind of engrained in the Warriors now. He is such a part of that team and the culture, everything he went through with the injuries, and just his whole laid-back attitude and approach. They love him. It would be hard to imagine him actually suiting up in another uniform.”

The Warriors have some tough decisions coming up soon, especially if they continue to struggle this season. Their 2022 championship win answered a lot of their critics and shut the doubters up, but when it’s time to decide about the future, there will no doubt be some consideration given to the fact that Klay Thompson might just leave.
