Even after winning the 2022 NBA championship, Stephen Curry isn’t going to let anyone or anything slow him down, not even the kind words of a fellow competitor and friend.

On Sunday, the Greek Freak made headlines when he called no. 30 the best player in the game, seemingly conceding the title based on one crucial factor: winning.

“Do I believe I am the best player in the world? No. I think the best player in the world is the person that is the last one standing,” Giannis said. “It’s the person who takes his team to the finish line and helps them win the game. Two years ago when we did that, yeah. When I was sleeping in my bed I said ‘ohhh yeah, maybe I am the best player in the world.’ But now, no. In my opinion, the way I view it, the winner is the best. The guy that wins is the best… I believe the best player in the world is Steph Curry until the next player.”

Those are no doubt very kind words from Giannis, who clearly holds Steph in very high regard.

Stephen Curry Responds To Giannis Antetokounmpo Crowning Him As The NBA’s Best Player

When asked to respond to Giannis’ statement, Curry didn’t gush with pride or joy. He just graciously thanked Giannis before clarifying that it won’t do anything to ‘soften’ him ahead of the new season.

“I don’t know if it was gamemanship. I would’ve said the same thing about the champions… I said the same thing about him last year. I appreciate the compliment. It’s not going to soften me at all,” Curry told Marc Spears.

When told that @Giannis_An34 said he was the best in the NBA, @StephenCurry30: "I don't know if it was gamemanship. I would've said the same thing about the champions… I said the same thing about him last year. I appreciate the compliment. It's not going to soften me at all."

It is well known that Curry and Giannis have a profound respect for each other and they are both fans of the other’s game. In the East, Antetokounmpo has made the Bucks relevant in an Eastern Conference that was up for the taking after LeBron’s departure.

In the West, Curry is back on top of the world after leading the Warriors to their fourth title in eight years.

But no matter who you see as the top player in the world, these players are going to bring their best each and every game, because they are one of the few players in the game who can be counted o to deliver every single game.
