Kevin Durant was mentioned as a potential candidate to join the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason after he doubled down on his desire to leave the Brooklyn Nets unless Joe Tsai let Steve Nash and Sean Marks go. The 2x NBA champion wants a change of air, and while several teams have been linked with a move for him, it seems like just two are ready to make a move for KD.
The Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly KD’s ‘desired landing spots’ this summer, and the interest is mutual, too. The Sixers have become favorites to get the player this offseason, especially after he was spotted working out with James Harden in Barcelona.
If that wasn’t enough, there are many reasons why this trade makes a lot of sense. Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright recently claimed that the Sixers ‘check all the boxes’ for Durant (4:33).
It does not surprise me that Durant would look at the Sixers and say ‘Embiid’s pretty great, I know on the court Harden and I work.’ Yeah, it doesn’t surprise me at all that he would look at that from a basketball perspective and say yeah, we could go win a title, and by the way, no one would be able to accuse me of joining a ready-made champion since this team has made the conference finals one time since Dr. J was on the team. I understand why it checks those boxes for him.
Durant has also flirted with the Boston Celtics, but things have slowed down between both parties. Now, the Sixers could make a surprising run for KD and actually land him, but they’ll need to disburse a huge package to unlock negotiations with the Nets. This situation could take a lot of time before it gets resolved, but it’s clear that Durant isn’t missing suitors.
