New York is home to some of the most passionate basketball fans in the world. That’s evident from the fact that the state is home to two NBA teams, the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets.
Since the sport is so popular out there, it’s not a surprise that it has given the NBA some great talent over the years as well. In particular, there have been many amazing point guards who are from NYC.
Apart from shining in the NBA, there are many athletes who have done a lot for basketball off the court as well. For example, God Shammgod has a basketball move named after him despite not even playing a full season in the league.
It goes to prove how influential the “Point Gods” from NYC really are. They have honed their skills by playing street ball and used those skills to succeed in the NBA as well.
Kevin Durant and his business partner Rich Kleiman’s Boardroom media network decided to create a docuseries based on such athletes. The documentary is titled
“NYC Point Gods” and features clips of several NYC legends.
During the promotion of the documentary, these legends were asked for their thoughts on some of the current NBA players they believe can survive on the playgrounds of NYC.
A few legends named the likes of Chris Paul, Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, and even LeBron James. But the most common answer was none other than Kyrie Irving.
Even Smush Parker, who first claimed they aren’t any current point guards worthy of the honor, later decided to go with Kyrie. Irving has always been gifted with elite basketball skills. He has used those skills to succeed in the NBA as well, and it makes sense why the legends of NYC Point Gods named him their favorite.
