It’s been weeks since the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the Lakers – but fans are still reeling about losing their franchise star. In the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade on Saturday, Dallas natives continued to express their frustration in a scene that has gone viral online: ‘F**k Nico’ chants to a passing Mavericks float.

With career averages of 28.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game on 46.8% shooting, Luka Doncic is the type of player who comes around only once in a generation. At 26 years old, Luka is the kind of player you build your whole team around, not the kind of player you trade mid-season after a run to the NBA Finals.

Mavericks GM Nico Harrison negotiated for weeks behind the scenes and yet still he didn’t allow any other team to make a bid for the young superstar. Instead, he settled for a package including the injury-prone Anthony Davis and one first-round pick. Today, fans are still feeling the hurt and they want Nico Harrison (former Nike executive) to pay for it with his job.

“At some point doesn’t Dallas’ least favorite “mamba mentality” shoe salesman say “screw it, this just isn’t worth it” and return to his beloved Pacific Northwest,” wrote a Dallas sports fan. “Or maybe join his grateful best friend and fellow mamba-obsessive Rob Pelinka on the Lakers’ front office staff?”

Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis are already in the process of moving on, but Mavericks fans haven’t even begun. With Luka gone, things have taken a turn for the worse and this season is as good as over for the Mavs.

“I keep trying but it’s literally impossible to even start the healing process,” wrote a Mavs fan. “I’ve had long-term relationships in my personal life that were easier to get over.”

For a team that was in the championship picture a few months ago, the Mavericks’ downfall has been wild to see and it’s still impossible to fathom how it all fell apart so quickly.

“Nico deserves all the hate he can get for what he did to the Mavericks,” one fan posted on X.

To say it’s a toxic situation in Dallas right now would be an understatement. The fans are feeling hurt and betrayed after giving up such a special and iconic player. From making makeshift memorials for Luka to presenting a statement in front of the city council, fans have taken drastic measures to express their outrage.

So far, nothing has worked to help Mavs fans get over the deal and it’s looking like it could take years for the fans to finally get over Doncic’s departure, that’s if they ever do at all.

At 33-35, the Mavericks are down to 10th in the West and it remains to be seen how long they can hold that final play-in spot. In the eyes of Mavericks’ fans, of course, this season is already over and the only way for the team to make it up to them is by winning big when Davis, Kyrie, and Thompson return at full strength next season.
