NBA Fan Explains The Narrative About The Best Player In The League For The Last 5 Years And Asks If Stephen Curry Sits On The Throne Now: “There Is No Consensus Best Player In The World Right Now.”

The debate about which player is the best in the league happens each and every season. For quite some time, most fans understood that LeBron James was the undisputed best player in the league.

But in the last few years or so, the narrative has changed a bit. Of course, LeBron getting older is a huge part of that narrative that has changed. But as of now, fans usually crown a new best player in the league every other season.

Usually, they regard the player who won the NBA Championship and the Finals MVP to be the best player in the league at the moment. Redditor u/coldairtime2 asked this question in one of their recent posts on Reddit.

They pulled out the stats from the last five NBA seasons and pointed out the players who have been considered the best in the league have fulfilled the above-mentioned criteria. Obviously, there is an argument for LeBron James, who was still the best player in the NBA in 2017 and 2018, despite losing the finals.

According to this narrative, as of now, Steph Curry should sit on the throne of the best player in the league. Many NBA fans flooded the comments section with their opinions about the same. Here are the best comments posted by fans below the Reddit post.

dat_tech: “Still Giannis. But people that were starting to slide Steph out of top 3 with his up and down regular season gonna have to sit that out for another year after this playoffs.”

SuperBatSpider: “LeBron was still the best player in the world in 2017. This isn’t really the rule you think it is; the best player in the league is usually called the best player because. well, they’re the best player.”

varankhurana: “2017 was so clearly LeBron, it was a joke how good he was.”

Senju___Uchiha: “People don’t respect his three-point game as a legitimate take over to be Dominate even though points are points no matter how you score them.”

SnooChipmunks4208: “Steph gets the championship belt, but its probably most accurate to say that there is no consensus best player in the world right now.”

Foodworkssupervisor: “Steph and Giannis are 1A 1B right now depending on how high you value defense vs steph’s gravity. you can make a solid case for either of them.”

Kingxcvi: “People don’t wanna give him the title because he doesn’t look the part. Every “Best player in the world” is usually 6’6+ and more physically imposing. Because Steph dominates the game with skill and finesse people downplay his dominance. He shifts defenses more than anyone in the league. The most impactful and best player rn imo. It just looks different than what we’re used to seeing the top guy be.”

C0oK1e_Monsta: “He’s been the best player in the world since 2015.”

staff_daddy9: “It wasn’t KD in 2017. It was still easily Lebron. Lebron didn’t win every ring from 09-20 but he was still the best player over that time frame.”

redditapplebum: “Giannis is the best player in the world right now. No doubt about it.”

CautiouslyOptimistic: “I was gonna disagree with you on 2020, but you’re right, everyone was on the “I’m not gonna doubt Lebron ever again, he’s the best player” train. But it just doesn’t feel like Steph claimed best in the world this time around, still very much feels like Giannis.”

Baconmazing: “LeBron and KD are slipping 1 and 2. I think its a little premature to say they aren’t anymore. But I have Giannis 3 and Curry 4.”

Fans had various opinions about the question. While many believed that Steph is indeed the best player in the NBA right now, there were a lot of fans who opposed to it.

They either believe that Giannis Antetokounmpo is ahead of Curry or that there is currently no consensus on who is the best player in the league. Maybe that will change in the future, but for now, that seems to be the case.
