Tracy McGrady Says Jayson Tatum And Jaylen Brown Are ‘Way Better’ Than Him When He Was In Toronto

3 Min Read

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are probably the best wing duo in the NBA right now. While the league is full of intimidating wing duos like Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, Tatum and Brown have proven their class by leading the Boston Celtics to the NBA Finals this season. They are currently just 2 wins away from winning their first NBA titles.

Their skill-sets make them very intriguing as we have seen few players in a similar mold before. One of the most notable was Tracy McGrady. McGrady, in his prime, was an incredible two-way player, leading the league in scoring while also clamping up opponents.

McGrady was a force to be reckoned with ever since he entered the league as a 19-year-old with the Toronto Raptors. He is regarded as one of the first stars of the franchise, alongside Vince Carter. Despite that, McGrady commented on an Instagram post comparing Tatum and Brown with him and VC by saying that the Celtics duo are better than he was during his Toronto days.

T-Mac, in his last season with the Raptors, averaged 15.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. These numbers are very average compared to what Tatum and Brown are doing now, but McGrady was just 20 years old in that season. The comparison between VC and T-Mac with the two Celtics wings was a little unfair to begin with.

The Raptors had a very short run with McGrady and Carter both on the team. In those years, they didn’t come close to the NBA Finals. Tatum and Brown have been teammates for years now and are on the precipice of possibly becoming NBA Champions.

All respect to Carter and McGrady for their achievements and flashy style of basketball, but Tatum and Brown have proven themselves as a much deadlier duo through their years together. T-Mac recognizes that there are levels to their achievements and gave them their deserved flowers.
