De’Aaron Fox’s wife, Recee, and his former teammate, Malik Monk, appeared to get into a heated exchange after the Sacramento Kings‘ 127-109 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Friday. A fan at Golden 1 Center captured the two engaging in an animated conversation, with Recee looking rather upset at Monk.

There was some tension in the air as this was Fox’s first game against the Kings since being traded, and this interaction between Monk and Recee raised plenty of eyebrows. Here’s another angle of the two exchanging words.

It’s unclear what led to this exchange. Neither party has spoken about this, and even if they do at some point in the near future, they’re likely to play it down.

What made this particular interaction so intriguing was that Monk and Fox go way back. The two were first teammates at Kentucky in 2016-17 and then with the Kings from 2022 to 2025.

You wouldn’t expect Recee to have a problem with Monk, of all people, but there were signs that the relationship between the two players was no longer as great as it once was. Here is what Monk had to say when asked about Fox being traded.

“It was crazy because he was one of the reasons I came here for sure,” Monk said. ” But yeah, we’ve got to move on. I know it’s a business. By the looks of it, they say he wanted to be out of here, so he got what he wanted.”

Monk would have been stung by Fox wanting out if he was the reason he came to the Kings. The 27-year-old had also signed a four-year, $78 million extension in the offseason, and he might not have done that if he knew Fox was going to leave.

Did Recee have a problem with these comments? Who knows? While there may or may not be bad blood there, what we do know for sure is that Fox doesn’t have much love for his former team.

In the lead-up to this game, Fox shared when he was done with the Kings. He felt the organization didn’t have his back after Mike Brown was fired and was rather upset about it.

Fox would have been keen to get one over this former team here, but the Kings were the ones who emerged victorious. The one-time All-Star didn’t play well in the game either, finishing with just 16 points (6-17 FG), four rebounds, eight assists, and one steal.

What made that blowout loss all the worse was that the Kings were without Monk and Domantas Sabonis. The former was out with a toe sprain and the latter with a hamstring strain, but the hosts still came away with the win.

The Kings improved to 33-29 this season with this result and still have aspirations of finishing in the top six in the West to secure a spot in the playoffs. As for the Spurs, they dropped to 26-35 and are set to miss the postseason once again.
