Draymond Green has had a few knocks against him in his time, especially the season during which the Warriors were struggling, but the one thing even his biggest critic cannot accuse him of is lacking confidence. Green and his team have been the most successful franchise in the last 8 years and he makes sure that everyone knows about it.
His tenacity to back up his talk is part of what makes Draymond so great, and he is carrying his competitive fire into this season’s NBA Finals as well. After having made light work of the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals, a rested Golden State Warriors team is set to take on the dangerous Boston Celtics, who have eliminated some big hitters on their way to the Finals themselves.
But Green isn’t too worried, he pointed out in a recent interview that the Warriors have never been beaten when all of their main players have been available (via NBC Sports):
“Because nobody had beat us. No one has ever beaten us whole. Ever. Has not happened yet. In 2016, I got suspended from a game [in the Finals]. In 2019, Kevin Durant goes down [during the Finals]. But then you follow that over to Cleveland, no one has ever beat us whole.”
The Warriors did miss Green for a crucial Game 5 against Cleveland when he was suspended, and both Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson struggled with serious injuries during the season that they lost against the Toronto Raptors.
While all of this is true and the Warriors organization also seems confident about being able to better the Celtics, they will have their work cut out against the best defensive side in the NBA. It won’t be an easy task by any measure, and the Warriors can’t afford to turn the ball over a lot, but with Draymond ably backing up Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, it would be hard to bet against them in a Finals series.
