Luka Doncic is one of the best up-and-coming players in the NBA, and he’s already a superstar-caliber player at 23 years of age. Luka Doncic is a top-tier offensive player, one that is capable of both scoring and facilitating at a high level. Currently, Luka Doncic is averaging 28.2 PPG, 9.3 RPG, and 8.6 APG.

One of the things that Luka Doncic is well-known for is his ability to close games. In recent times, we’ve seen Luka Doncic target superstars on the defensive end at the end of games, such as the time when he continuously scored on LeBron James in isolation during the last Lakers-Mavericks game.

When speaking to JJ Redick, Luka Doncic explained his mindset behind targeting superstars on the defensive end. He stated that he wants to make the best players work on “both ends” of the floor, as they “play the whole game” and “handle the ball” a lot.

I would say like this: because the best players, they gotta work on both ends. You just have to make them work on both ends… They play the whole game, they handle the ball a lot. You just want to make them tired… When you have the best player on you, you want to score: yes or yes. So it’s like pride, proud moment too.

There is no doubt that Luka Doncic’s strategy makes sense from a basketball perspective. Superstars already carry an immense load on the offensive end and targeting them on the defensive end makes them exert even more effort to try and stop you.

The Dallas Mavericks are currently 5th in the Western Conference and seem well-positioned to potentially win a series this year. Hopefully, we see them make a deep playoff run, and with Luka Doncic, they have a good chance of beating any opponent.
