If at the start of the season someone said that this Los Angeles Lakers team would end up being the worst team LeBron James ever played on, they would either be called a hater or delusional. However, it seems like that reality is becoming even more likely as the Lakers lose one game after the other.
In the days before the play-in, the Lakers would have already been condemned to a lottery position, but they still have something to play for, so maybe they can pull some more wins off. Otherwise, this Lakers team will have a distinction that will be quite incredible in terms of being the worst team LeBron has ever been a part of.
LeBron has finished below a top-8 seed only twice in his career. The first was his rookie year and the second time was his first year with the Lakers when he missed a large chunk of the season due to a groin injury. His 35-47 record with the Cavs in 2003-04 is the worst in his career, but the 2021-22 Lakers are now on pace to beat that.
The Lakers have fallen to 29-40.
The worst record for a LeBron team since the ‘03 Cavs. 😳 pic.twitter.com/bCq7vGld9h

After the loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight, the Lakers are now 29-40. They have to go 7-6 in their last 13 games to have a chance at making sure this team doesn’t make this kind of history, as nobody would have expected this ‘super-team’ to fail so magnificently.
In terms of the quality of basketball, this Lakers team is probably one of the worst in the league. They play with no urgency and extremely sloppily. LeBron is still having some amazing games, but at this point, the only reason you’d watch the Lakers is to appreciate Year 19 LeBron.
This season has been a catastrophe and both LeBron and the Lakers are just counting the days until this nightmare is over.
