NBA Rumors: Sixers Won’t Trade Tyrese Maxey In James Harden Trade

Tyrese Maxey is the current starting point guard for the Philadelphia 76ers. During Ben Simmons’ absence, Maxey has enjoyed a bit of a breakout year. Currently, the young guard is putting up 16.9 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 4.8 APG on the season, while shooting 40.4% from beyond the arc.

The Philadelphia 76ers have had a good year while missing an All-Star caliber player in Ben Simmons, but there’s no doubt that they need more star power on the roster. The Philadelphia 76ers were recently linked with a James Harden trade ahead of the deadline, with the Brooklyn Nets reportedly willing to trade James Harden to get Ben Simmons.

With the NBA trade deadline just days away on Feb. 10, the 76ers are expected to pursue Harden in the coming days and the Nets are believed to be open to discussing a deal, sources with knowledge of the situation tell The Athletic. There’s expectation that both the 76ers and Nets will engage in dialogue on a deal around Simmons for Harden this week, multiple sources say, with Philadelphia holding a chest of role players in Seth Curry, Tyrese Maxey and Matisse Thybulle that could sweeten a potential package. Still, there’s no urgency for Nets officials, who have had the steadfast belief that the current core, as is, has the means necessary for a championship. However, it’s believed that an opening exists should an offer elevate the team and make the roster more well-rounded as the franchise pursues a championship.

From this report, we can see that there is a possibility the Philadelphia 76ers trade Ben Simmons and some sweeteners to get James Harden. According to Michael K-B of CBS Sports, the one player that the 76ers won’t move in this hypothetical trade is Tyrese Maxey.

The #Sixers will not include Tyrese Maxey in any potential deals with the #Nets for James Harden prior to the trade deadline, per a league source with team knowledge.

There is no doubt that Tyrese Maxey has a bright future. He is a combo guard that can facilitate and score. While James Harden is a good player, it makes sense that the 76ers would want to keep their most talented young player.

Hopefully, we see Tyrese Maxey improve even further in the future. He is part of the Rising Stars game this year, and perhaps we see an All-Star appearance for him at some point later down the line.
