There is no doubt now that the Los Angeles Lakers are a legitimate title threat. After beating the Grizzlies in 6 games, the Purple and Gold have effectively humbled the young squad and put the entire league on notice that they are coming for the trophy.
Along the way, Anthony Davis has delivered on a dominant showing and played a huge role in sending the NBA’s biggest trash-talkers home. After Game 6, he even provided some insight into how he dealt with all the talk from the other side.
“People are gonna talk, Davis said. “We just go out and let our game talk and play basketball… If a guy’s constantly talking and you’re not saying nothing back, they’re going to eventually stop. I think that’s what kind of happened.”
AD on LeBron and the Lakers ignoring the Dillon Brooks noise:

Before the series, and all throughout the season, the Grizzlies were happy to talk down to the competition and egg on their opponents with bold and borderline disrespectful quotes.
That all changed after the Lakers took the edge in their first-round series, and Dillon Brooks was nowhere to be found.
“Dillon Brooks is the epitome of ‘don’t let your mouth write a check your a** can’t cash,'” said Nicole Moss said in a recent episode of the ‘I Am Athlete’ podcast. “That’s the epitome of what he is. Dillon Brooks wanted to be this guy. He wanted to be the villain. He wanted to be the guy who throws jabs at everybody and riles people up. From LeBron to Carmelo to this team to that team. He wanted to be this guy.”
Dillon Brooks May Not Return To Grizzlies Next Season
Despite what he brings defensively, Brooks is facing some big problems as he prepares for NBA free agency. These playoffs really exposed his lack of shooting and he became borderline unplayable for the Grizzlies down the stretch of games.
If he’s unable to perform his role as an enforcer and motivator, then what value does he bring to a Grizzlies team that is looking for someone to blame?
Needless to say, Brooks’ future is up in the air now as the playoffs head into the second round, and Anthony Davis has shown once again that his play is more than enough to shut down the loudest of opponents.
