Colin Cowherd Takes Shot At Michael Jordan: “MJ Needed Stuff. He Needed A Coach, And He Needed Pippen. LeBron Just Needs A Ball.”

2 Min Read

With his most recent Championship, LeBron James has a lot of people re-evaluating the GOAT debate. This title, along with all the challenges he overcame to get it, has undoubtedly helped his case for the GOAT status and it’s sparking conversation around the globe.

On The Herd, FOX Sports analyst Colin Cowherd was having one of those conversations on the air when he said a particularly interesting quote regarding LeBron and Mike.

“Michael needed Scottie and Phil. LeBron just needs a ball. He won with a wing, he won with a point guard, he won with a big, he won with four different coaches. Michael needed things to work or he couldn’t even get to the Finals. LeBron doesn’t need anything.”

It can be easy to forget all the amazing talent Jordan was surrounded with. Between Phil Jackson, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman, his teams were stacked with very capable players.

But using his need for solid teammates is a bit unfair when you consider every star needs help. Every Championship LeBron won came alongside star teammates like Dwyane Wade, Kyrie Irving, and Anthony Davis.

Needless to say, Colin’s controversial take drew a lot of attention from fans, who were going crazy in the comments.

The simple truth of the matter is that it takes more than a man to win, even if that man is the greatest basketball player in existence. Colin may be right in that MJ needed Phil and Pippen to win. But when has a star player ever not needed talent around him to get the job done?
