Danny Green On Ben Simmons Trade Rumors: “There’s An Opportunity For You To Kind Of Reinvent Yourself.”

In the aftermath of another disappointing playoff run, the Philadelphia 76ers find themselves in a state of complete mayhem.

Besides mounting pressure for the front office to make a drastic change, young star Ben Simmons has begun his rebellion, going so far as to ghost the organization and many of his teammates. His relationship with head coach Doc Rivers is reportedly unsalvagable.

That is not to say everything is hunky-dory, or that the stakes of this offseason aren’t clear to both sides. The relationship between Simmons and Doc Rivers, it’s worth noting, suffered significant damage that some believe is irreparable, though the Sixers would tell you when pressed on this they believe things can be worked out and fences can be mended.”

With this in mind, it seems inevitable that Ben will be moved from Philadelphia sometime in the near future.

For Danny Green, though, that outcome is not necessarily a bad thing for Ben. Speaking on all the rumors coming out of Philly, the veteran guard stepped up to show some support for the young star, suggesting that a trade from the Sixers might actually be good for him in the long run.

“I usually use that advice for people that get traded, because we all hate to move as adults regardless,” Green said, via NBC Sports Philadelphia. “But people look at it as a bad thing, being traded. I think you’ve got to look at the positives. Another team wants you, and there’s an opportunity for you to kind of reinvent yourself, reidentify yourself.

And that’s maybe why you hear the rumors of him wanting to go somewhere else or the team wanting to move him. Maybe he felt like he couldn’t reidentify himself here; he could do it better in another city. But that’s not always true.

You can do that in the city that you play in. You can come back a different player. You have more time off this summer to work on some things, reset your mindset, reset yourself and hopefully come back a stronger player or different player. That would be my advice to him, of course.”

With everything that Simmons is going through, both on and off the court, a change of scenery might really be what he needs to get his career back in an upwards direction.

Of course, Daryl Morey and the Sixers aren’t making things easy on that front, as their price for Simmons is still too high than most teams are willing to engage.

Still, it will be interesting to see how the future plays out for the 2x All-Star, and if some new pastures might set him back on the right path.
