De’Aaron Fox Denies That His Father Played A Role In The Kings Not Drafting Luka Doncic In 2018: “He’s Not A Part Of My Team. He Doesn’t Work For Me.”

3 Min Read

De’Aaron Fox is one of the most underrated players in the NBA today. The Kings guard has been their most consistent performer over the last few seasons. During this time, Fox has established himself as the face of the franchise. But that raises the question; how much power does Fox hold over the franchise? Well, some Twitter users are under the impression that Fox and his camp get a say over the team-building process.

This is because of what De’Aaron Fox’s dad recently Tweeted in response to the Kings’ selection of Davion Mitchell in the 2021 NBA Draft. Fox’s dad, in a now-deleted Tweet, disagreed with the Kings selection of Mitchell. This has led fans to believe that Fox and his father have a say in the franchise’s draft selections.

Because of this, some fans on Twitter are speculating that it was Fox and his father who stopped the Kings from using their second overall pick in the 2018 Draft to select Luka Doncic. The Kings used their pick to select big man Marvin Bagley III with their pick instead. The idea behind this theory is that Fox and his camp would not allow a star like Luka Doncic to surpass Fox as the face of the franchise.

Quick to see these rumors gaining traction, De’Aaron Fox took to Twitter to dismiss the speculation. He noted that his father has never been part of his camp, and doesn’t have any say in his career or his relationship with the Kings. He added that fans should take Fox’s dad’s comments and behavior as no seriously than they would take that of any other fan.

Fox clearly doesn’t hold any weight in these theories, as he was polite but clear in addressing the speculation. His focus, from what he seems to be saying, is on the court and he isn’t concerning himself with the Kings’ front office activities for the moment. Furthermore, former Kings GM Vlade Divac has come forward on numerous occasions to remind fans that it was his decision to select Marvin Bagley over Luka Doncic. So the emergence of these rumors is truly puzzling.
