Doc Rivers On Paul George’s Preferential Treatment Comments: “Every Player Says, ‘I Want To Win A Championship.’ That’s Bull. A Lot Of Them Want To Win As Long As They Get To Do Exactly What They Want To Do.”

The beef between Doc Rivers and Paul George doesn’t seem to be finished right now, as they throw shade at each other whenever they have the opportunity. First PG talked about the lack of adjustments for the Clippers during their infamous 2020 playoff series against the Denver Nuggets, pretty much blaming Rivers for the elimination of the team.

The veteran head coach replied to those comments, making it clear that it wouldn’t be so different now with Tyronn Lue, who was an assistant coach to Rivers last season. Doc has continued taking shots at George in recent interviews and now that PG talked about the preferential treatment he and Kawhi Leonard received last season, Rivers once again attacked him.

Via Jackie MacMullan of ESPN:

“Every player says, ‘I want to win a championship,'” Rivers says. “That’s bull. A lot of them want to win as long as they get to do exactly what they want to do.”

This is a story that keeps getting bigger as the days go by. PG wasn’t happy with the way Rivers used him on the Clippers, Rivers fought against that preferential treatment from the front office, creating a lot of troubles within the organization.

“A lot of it is true,” Rivers concedes. “There was special treatment, but what people don’t understand is I was the guy who didn’t like it and was fighting it.”

Now Rivers is part of a new organization, the Philadelphia 76ers, trying to lead that team to a championship with Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid leading the way. Doc didn’t leave the Clippers the best way and his situation isn’t improving with the recent comments made by himself and his former players.
