• Dwight Howard joked about being the one that robbed fans of a LeBron James vs. Kobe Bryant NBA Finals in 2009

• Howard eliminated LeBron’s Cavaliers en route to losing to Kobe’s Lakers in the Finals

• Dwight also mentioned how he played alongside both on the Lakers, finally winning a championship alongside LeBron

Dwight Howard was arguably the best center in the NBA through the end of the 2000s and the start of the 2010s. His best accomplishment in the postseason came when he led the Magic to the 2009 Finals, beating LeBron James‘ Cavaliers on the way. He flexed about being the one to stop LeBron and Kobe Bryant from ever meeting in the Finals with that 2009 win over LeBron.

Dwight would also say he tried teaming up with Kobe for a title and failed on the Lakers. However, he had a happy ending as he played a role in the Lakers’ 2020 title triumph, led by LeBron. He has had interesting opinions on the leadership styles of both stars.

The Three Stars Of The 2009 Playoffs

LeBron and his Cavaliers were tearing through the Eastern Conference in 2009. They had the best record in the league and LeBron won the first regular season MVP of his career. After losing one game through the first two rounds, LeBron ran into Dwight’s Magic.

Even though James averaged 38.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 8.0 assists, his teammates couldn’t help him avoid a Conference Finals loss in six games.

Howard was dominant, averaging 20.3 points, 15.3 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks over that playoff run. His Magic eliminated the reigning champions Celtics in a brutal second-round series.

Kobe led the Lakers admirably to avenge his Finals loss from 2008. He averaged 30.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.5 assists through the playoffs and made easy work of Dwight’s Magic in the Finals, winning in five games.
