Gregg Popovich may be one of the greatest coaches ever to grace the game of basketball but he is also one of the most loved. Pop’s players have always loved him, and for the most part, his ability to build cohesive unites around unselfish stars and get the most out of all those players is what has made him the legend he is.
Even though the Spurs have lost their playoff streak and aren’t in the playoff picture in the Western Conference this season and the last, Coach Pop has reached the incredible milestone of becoming the winningest coach in the history of the NBA. He passed Don Nelson after the Spurs beat a really good Utah Jazz team on Friday night.
And the way the players celebrated in the locker room was one of the most wholesome moments of the night, giving Coach Pop the game ball after a speech by Dejounte Murray and then spraying him with a lot of water as a celebration. Pop wasn’t too amused, to say the least, but he seemed touched by the gesture his players had made.

Dejounte Murray: “Before we go home, we gotta celebrate the most wins by a coach in NBA history. Coach pop, you deserve it and we all love you and we’re glad we’re here to be able to enjoy this moment with you.
Coach Pop: “Thank you, man.” *players spray him with water* “We’re having shootaround tomorrow and we’re running suicides.”
Pop’s sense of humor is legendary in the NBA, everyone knows how quick and witty he can be, and this was just another example of that. The fact that he commands his players’ respect even when things aren’t going so well for the team is an excellent example of how Pop has been able to achieve all the success that he has in the NBA.
