There is no doubt that when on the court, Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant is one of the best players in the league. He is an elite slasher and playmaker, and he has the potential to lead the team to a championship.

Despite his talent, the public’s view of Ja Morant has recently been altered negatively due to his off-court incidents. The most recent issue involved him brandishing a gun during a friend’s Instagram Live stream. Grizzlies legend Tony Allen has recently spoken out about this incident, noting that he’ll talk to Ja Morant about the issue, while also stating that if Morant believes he needs a gun, he needs security instead. “I’ll definitely tell him (Ja Morant) the guns are not one of those things you play with… I just think if he got that fear of holding a gun, he should be in much need of security. More so than anything, you got to be properly planning in your movements. When you out and about man, and you definitely think you need a gun or you need places to go that you need a gun, you might not need to be going to those places. I say that from experience.”

“I reach out to his dad every day,” Allen said. “I tell him, ‘Hey man, I’m in y’all corner. I’m around. I’m here if you need me.’ I been through some of everything of what he’s trying to portray. It can get rough.”

There’s no doubt that waving guns around without a real fear for his safety is not a good course of action for Ja Morant. Though it is legal to carry a gun without a permit in the state of Tennessee, it is unnecessary to show them on social media.

In the 2022-23 playoffs, Ja Morant averaged 24.6 PPG, 6.8 RPG, and 7.0 APG for the Memphis Grizzlies. He is clearly a crucial cog for the franchise, and the team will definitely miss him if he gets suspended for a long period of time next season.

Adam Silver Was Not Happy With Ja Morant

NBA commissioner Adam Silver previously spoke out about Ja Morant’s recent gun incident, stating that he was “shocked” that there was another instance of him flashing a gun on social media.

It will be interesting to see what sort of punishment the league will hand down to Ja Morant. Some form of suspension probably seems reasonable, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
