NBA star Kevin Durant has been more than willing to leave teams behind before. With the Phoenix Suns, however, Durant says he’s here to stay and believes he’s found the place where he will finish his career.
“I’ve been on so many teams and I’ve said it before… if you ask me today, without thinking about it, yeah,” said Durant when Malika Andrews asked him if the Suns are where he wants to end his NBA tenure. “I love playing in Phoenix. I love the fanbase, the city, I’ve grown to understand what our mission is being in the Valley and how deep these people care about their team.”
It’s no secret that Durant had a similar way of thinking with the Thunder, Warriors, and Nets before things turned ugly. At this point, fans aren’t really going to take his word about any long-term commitments to the team… but Durant may be serious about his future with the Suns.
During his previous stops, in Golden State, and Brooklyn, Duant had to bear with unrelenting noise about his game, his legacy, and his very character. With the Suns, Kevin can focus strictly on the game and that’s exactly what he’s been doing over the past year and a half.
As a basketball purist at heart, Durant’s love for the game itself is only rivaled by his desire to win and the Suns are arguably the best place where he can play, contend, and compete without any off-court distractions.
Since arriving last season as part of a trade with the Brooklyn Nets, Durant has continued to be one of the best players in the game and his performance on the Suns is proof that he can still play a factor in the NBA title race.
The Phoenix Suns Are Darkhorse Candidates To Win The West
Team governor Matt Ishbia has pulled all the tricks to assemble the best team possible. Since he took over, the Suns have added multiple stars to join Devin Booker — first with Kevin Durant last season and then Bradley Beal in the summer of 2023.
While the Suns currently rank 6th in the West, Durant still believes that they can make a run this spring and finally put an end to the doubters who question their potential.
“I believe in this team, and we believe in one another,” said Durant. “Yes, playing with Brad and Book is new, but as far as the game itself, I have seen everything in this league. I like our chemistry. Not just the three of us, but our whole team.”
The biggest problem for the Suns this season has been health. With all of the big three having missed time over the past few months, the team hasn’t been able to build the chemistry one might expect.
So far, it’s led to choppy and inconsistent play on the court and many experts have raised concerns over their ability to keep up with some of the juggernauts in the West.
