Kyrie Irving is a misunderstood figure in modern basketball. It seems he always thinks people do not understand the intentions behind his moves, which has alienated fans all around the league.

After news broke about Kyrie recruiting LeBron James to come and join him with Luka Doncic on the Dallas Mavericks, a frequent critic reared his head. Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports mocked the report and Irving in particular, which led the All-Star guard to respond on Twitter.

“Make sure you’re taking care of yourself, David. You can only run your mouth for so long before Karma catches up. Be well.”

Portnoy is an avid Kyrie hater, tweeting about the star very often, while no NBA player has recognized or acknowledged what Portnoy has to say. It all makes sense when you see that Portnoy is a massive Boston Celtics fan and still feels burned by what Irving did when he left the franchise in 2019.

A Superteam In Dallas?

The thought of LeBron James joining the Dallas Mavericks seems incredulously stupid. LeBron just saw his son commit to playing college basketball in California, and James will not be moving to Dallas right now. In addition, there are literally no trade assets that the Lakers would want to take from the asset-strapped Mavericks.

Unless LeBron demands to be bought out and then signs for the non-tax MLE with the Mavs, this move is going to be nigh impossible. The stars of both the Lakers and the Mavs are playing leverage games to see how their situation can be maximized. Kyrie is likely getting a max contract from Dallas and will stay on the squad, while LeBron will serve the final guaranteed year on his contract and then possibly become a free agent in 2024.
