USA Today FTW

For the past 22 years, NBA 2K has been providing basketball fans with a virtual basketball experience. In the beginning, they were among the best in the business, and their yearly releases always featured some kind of new, innovative mechanic to the game.

Recently, though, the 2K developers have gotten a tad lazy, and it seems the studio has stopped listening to their fanbase altogether.

The result has been a resounding amount of backlash from the community, to the point where some have even taken to boycotting the franchise.

Needless to say, fans don’t have high hopes for the next installment of the series, and it’s hard to blame them for it.

Interestingly enough, however, NBA 2K 22 will have something no other game in the series has included: different career options.

According to a report by ScreenRant, 2K22 will allow players to pursue career paths not relating to basketball, including Hip-Hop and fashion.

MyCAREER won’t be exclusively geared toward basketball in NBA 2K22. Side ventures can help players build professional profiles in other spaces, as well. While it hasn’t yet been fully outlined what other careers will be available in NBA 2K22, a couple have been specifically detailed thus far. Players can expand into the fashion or music industry, for example, rising to success as a hip-hop star as well as a sports star. It sounds as though successes in these career paths will also have an impact on the home base in The City, which will evolve as players level up in other areas of business. As the official release date approaches, more details will undoubtedly be revealed about what other ambitions fans of the series will be able to work toward in NBA 2K22.

While it remains to be seen what kind of changes a HIp-Hip career path will have on the overall experience, it’s certainly an encouraging sign. After years of putting out mostly the same game, throwing out something so ambitious and untested has the potential to really shake things up.

While the series has explored the world of Hip-Hop and fashion in the past, 2K22 will take it to a whole new level.

No matter how you feel about those additions upon release, you have to respect 2K Sports for taking such a bold step.
