Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever’s rising star and the number one overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, recently made waves by declaring LeBron James the greatest basketball player of all time. In a December 11 interview with Time magazine, Clark praised LeBron not only for his incredible legacy on the court but also for his vocal support of her career in both college and the WNBA.

“LeBron never messaged me directly, but it has been cool to just see his support of myself and the W overall. You can tell he really watches and turns it on. He has been a huge fan of myself from college and now in the W. I mean, he’s the greatest basketball player of all time, so I think that’s pretty cool.”

LeBron James has been an avid supporter of Caitlin Clark, often taking to social media to share his admiration for her talent and dedication. One standout example came on April 7, 2024, when LeBron posted on X (formerly Twitter):

“If you don’t rock with Caitlin Clark’s game, you’re just a FLAT OUT HATER!!!!! Stay far away from those people!! PLEASE.”

The post quickly went viral, showcasing LeBron’s appreciation for her dynamic style of play.

Later that year, on August 30, LeBron expressed his excitement after Clark’s dominant performance in a game against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky. Clark delivered an outstanding 31 points and 12 assists, leading the Indiana Fever to a decisive 100-81 victory.

LeBron has also spoken in depth about his respect for Clark’s game. In a September 26 feature with Esquire, LeBron drew parallels between his own journey and Clark’s burgeoning career.

Clark’s acknowledgment of LeBron as the GOAT is a testament to the mutual respect between these two athletes. While LeBron’s career has been defined by his all-around dominance and longevity, Clark has quickly established herself as one of the most exciting young stars in basketball. Her ability to perform under pressure, coupled with her leadership on the court, echoes traits that have defined LeBron’s illustrious career.

In the world of sports, it’s often said, “Game recognizes game.” With LeBron supporting Clark’s ascent in the WNBA and Clark heralding LeBron’s legacy, this mutual admiration underscores the connective power of basketball across generations and leagues. As Clark continues her journey, her GOAT may one day recognize her as one in her own right.
