Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley were the best of friends and spent a lot of time together in the 1990s. One of their favorite pastimes together was gambling and playing cards. And according to legendary comedian Cedric The Entertainer, Jordan and Barkley were high rollers. Speaking on the ‘All The Smoke’ podcast, Cedric addressed their massive wagers, going as high as $300K a hand.

“They gambled on another level man. I was gambling with Barkley when he was at the roulette table… He’s going hard. Barkley and MJ, they do their thing. He’s got $300K on the thing, and I’ve got $1000… MJ comes in and grabs a stack of Barkley’s chips, maybe $150K. Barkley goes ‘Hey man, what did you get?'”

“MJ says ‘Does it matter? You know I got you, whatever it is. I just don’t want to get chips’. They were gambling. I tried to go over there with their game. They were just embarrassing me trying to get in. They’re doing like $300K a hand. I’m in there with my $100 chips, waiting till the next one. I asked ‘Oh I can’t even get in on this?’. They were like ‘Nah you don’t need to be in on this’.”

Jordan’s affinity for gambling is well-known. In fact, things became so well-known that there was speculation about Jordan’s career and retirement in 1993 came about because of his gambling debts. Of course, that wasn’t the case, but people made that connection because of Jordan’s gambling habit.

As for Charles Barkley, he accompanied Jordan to a lot of places. The two were inseparable and very close friends. Unfortunately, in the years since, Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley have had a falling out, and are no longer close friends. But when the good times were rolling, Jordan and Barkley were the highest of rollers.

Charles Barkley Still Defends Michael Jordan

Charles Barkley might not be friends with Michael Jordan. But despite their fractured relationship, Barkley still stays true to his word. Recently, he debunked LeBron James’ GOAT argument and explained why Michael Jordan is the greatest of all time.

Barkley has continued his career as a broadcast analyst, while Michael Jordan has remained reclusive to the media while carrying out his private business.

Jordan’s several business endeavors keep him busy off the court. Most recently, Jordan purchased a massive $70 million jet, thanks to his massive wealth.

One can hope that in the years to come, Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley can put aside their issues, and mend their relationship. They were once the best of friends, but a falling out has caused them to be estranged for years now.

To see two friends who were as close as Jordan and Barkley ruin their relationship is sad to see. Especially when they’re two legends of the game. NBA fans would be thrilled to see the two former friends resolve their problems.
