DeMar DeRozan has been one of the most productive wing players in the league this year. He has definitely had All-NBA caliber seasons in the past, but he is simply on another level this year. Currently, DeMar DeRozan is putting up 26.3 PPG, 5.0 RPG, and 4.8 APG.

Many have claimed that this is the best season of DeMar DeRozan’s career. Some have even suggested that he should win the Most Improved Player award for the leap that he took from being an All-Star player to being an MVP candidate.

DeMar DeRozan was recently asked by Taylor Rooks about whether he was the 2021-22 MVP. In response, DeRozan claimed that he “came into this season” believing that he was the MVP. He also gave credit to the Chicago Bulls for allowing him to be the player he knew he was.

I came into this season thinking I was the MVP. That’s just my mentality. Not in a selfish manner, but just knowing the work that I put in. Not just for myself as well, but for my team.

My team has overcome so much so quick, and it sucks that we’re dealing with so many injuries of late. The team we have pushed me, and allowed me to be the player I knew I was. That showed. My whole mentality coming into the season felt I was the best player… Whatever comes with that, MVP, king of the midrange, I was going to take it.

It remains to be seen if DeMar DeRozan will indeed win the MVP award. He will definitely have competition from other players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid. However, DeRozan should definitely be in those conversations, as he is playing at a high level, and has led the Chicago Bulls to the 2nd seed in the Eastern Conference.

The Chicago Bulls look like they’ll be back in the playoffs for the first time since the 2016-17 season. DeMar DeRozan playing well has been crucial to that happening, and hopefully, we see him show out in the playoffs this year.
