James Harden is one of the best shooting guards that the league has ever seen. He was a dominant offensive player for the Houston Rockets, being the scoring engine for multiple elite teams. With the Philadelphia 76ers, he has played more of a pass-first role but is a double-double threat every evening. As of right now, James Harden is averaging 21.8 PPG, 6.4 RPG, and 11.1 APG.

There is no doubt that James Harden’s numbers and accolades show that he is a fantastic guard. However, since he has not won a championship in his career, many people don’t have him that high in the guard rankings. It seems as though James Harden understands this as well, and a recent report from Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports revealed that Dwyane Wade’s three championships are an obstacle that “Harden sees ahead of his standing on the great guard rankings.”

A championship is the one thing Harden’s resume lacks as well. People familiar with Harden’s thinking have long listed Dwyane Wade’s three titles as something Harden sees ahead of his standing on the great guard rankings in NBA history.

If the Philadelphia 76ers do manage to win a championship this season, it is quite possible that James Harden’s legacy will improve in the eyes of the public. He has all the individual accolades already, and now it is about team success.

James Harden Previously Said A Championship Is All He’s Missing

There is no doubt that James Harden was one of the players that helped usher in the 3PT shooting revolution. He was an elite high-volume 3PT shooter during his time with the Houston Rockets. Previously, James Harden claimed that a championship is all that is missing on his resume after he changed the game of basketball.

“So, of course, I care, but people are going to talk no matter what. But I care about, like, winning and things that are important and matter. I don’t care about things that don’t matter, that are gonna be a story for 24 or 48 hours and then go away.

“I’m one of the people that changed the game of basketball,” he continued. “Honestly, the only thing that I’m missing is a championship.”

Obviously, James Harden is an all-time great, whether he wins a championship or not. He will be a first-ballot Hall-of-Fame player when he retires. However, winning a championship would definitely put him among the best of the best. While his recently reported interest in potentially rejoining the Houston Rockets means that a ring is not his only priority, it is definitely high on the list.

Hopefully, we do see James Harden win a championship in the future. He has a chance to do so with the Philadelphia 76ers this season. They will need the best of Harden in the playoffs to win it all this year, and we’ll see if he delivers.
