Nets superstar Kyrie Irving is seemingly addicted to controversy. Throughout his 11-year stint in the NBA, the former NBA champion has shared all kinds of wild takes and opinions about science, politics, religion, and basically anything else you can think of.

While Irving is undoubtedly a beast on the court, his off-court antics often become a huge distraction to the team, which is exactly what happened during the anti-semitic scandal that threatened his entire career.

Finally, for the first time in weeks, Irving and the Nets are finally able to focus solely on basketball and the results have been pretty good so far. Unfortunately for Uncle Drew, it doesn’t mean he’s off the hook for some of the things he said.

In an exclusive interview with ‘The Free Press,’ Kareem revealed his true thoughts on Irving and how his recent outburst should be handled.

“Kyrie Irving may be the sweetest guy in the world at home and among his friends. But once he decides to broadcast his opinions to the world, he needs to be judged only on the content of what he says.”

Kyrie Irving Still Recovering From Latest Accusations

Kareem’s words may seem harsh, but he’s not the only one who feels that way about Irving. In the immediate aftermath of his anti-semitic behavior, Kyrie was called out by countless NBA personnel, including LeBron James.

Of course, it was also LeBron who later came to his defense.

“I got one question for you guys before you guys leave. I was thinking when I was on my way over here, I was wondering why I haven’t gotten a question from you guys about the Jerry Jones photo,” James said. “But when the Kyrie [Irving] thing was going on, you guys were quick to ask us questions about that. When I watch Kyrie talk and he says, ‘I know who I am, but I want to keep the same energy when we’re talking about my people and the things that we’ve been through,’ and that Jerry Jones photo is one of those moments that our people, Black people, have been through in America. And I feel like as a Black man, as a Black athlete, as someone with power and a platform, when we do something wrong, or something that people don’t agree with, it’s on every single tabloid, every single news coverage, it’s on the bottom ticker. It’s asked about every single day.”

No matter which side you’re on, the Nets have already moved past the whole ordeal. As winners of 8 in their last 10, Brooklyn seems to be completely locked in on the task at hand, which is actually quite rare for that franchise nowadays.

Hopefully, Uncle Drew is able to keep himself out of trouble long enough for the Nets to carry over their momentum into the New Year.
