The Los Angeles Lakers might have been the most disappointing teams in the NBA last season. While they were one of the favorites to win the title before the season started, the Lakers ended up missing the postseason all together.
Perhaps the biggest reason for the same was injuries. With the likes of LeBron James and Anthony Davis missing multiple games, the Lakers could never really settle in. Davis especially struggled a lot due to his recurring injuries.
While pundits have been critical of injury-prone superstar, former Celtics champion Kendrick Perkins expects a big comeback from AD. In an appearance at NBA Today, Perkins explained why Davis was his choice for the MVP trophy next season.
"Anthony Davis is a top-five talent right now. … I got Anthony Davis winning the MVP next season!"

“We all can agree that Anthony Davis is a top-five talent right now. Look, Anthony Davis healthy? I actually have Anthony Davis picked as my MVP winner for next season. Early prediction. I think Anthony Davis is gonna come back with something to prove.
“Anthony Davis, in my opinion, is one of the most skilled big men to ever play the game of basketball. It’s nothing that he doesn’t have in his arsenal, offensively or defensively. So, when I look at Anthony Davis, and I look at Darvin Ham, a coach who’s gonna put a key in his back. I look at Rasheed Wallace, being over there as the assistant coach. I got Anthony Davis motivated, and I got Anthony Davis winning the MVP next season.”
Ever since the 2020 NBA Finals, critics and pundits have claimed that Davis should take the mantle from LeBron James as the talisman of the Lakers. But perhaps the 2019-20 season was the last campaign where AD had a healthy season.
If there is any chance of ‘The Brow’ competing for the MVP trophy, he not only will have to perform at the highest level, but he will have to stay fit, which has become perhaps the biggest challenge for him of late. Can Anthony Davis really become the MVP next season?
