While the Kardashian family has no direct connection to the NBA, their history of relationships with NBA athletes often makes for some interesting behind-the-scenes stories.

Today, we often remember guys like Devin Booker, James Harden, or even Ben Simmons for their celebrity relationships, but former NBA Sixth Man of the Year Lamar Odom was before any of them.

Back in the day, he was a versatile wing player who won two championships with the Lakers during the prime of his career. While he was never considered an NBA superstar, he will always be remembered for his “superstar” personality… and his world-famous relationship with the Kardashian family.

Lamar married Khloe one month after they met and things fell apart four years later, setting a new standard for failed relationships. They even had their own reality show at the time, too, before it all came crashing down.

Apparently, the “fall” may have had something to do with Odom’s drug habit. While the former NBA star has been honest about his past before, he recently went into some more depth about it in a trailer for a documentary titled, “TMZ Presents: Lamar Odom: Sex, Drugs & Kardashians.”

NBA fans couldn’t help but tune in to listen to Odom’s story.

“Drugs — that was my girlfriend,” Odom said. “I had a wife and cocaine. I mean, behind the scenes, I put her through some s—,” he said. “The things that y’all think y’all know is crazy. But the stories that y’all don’t know is really crazy.”

Drug Habit Pushed Odom’s Life Out Of Control

Hard drugs pushed Odom to rock bottom, and he lost everything before finally getting his life together. But as he made sure to mention in a sit-down with Shannon Sharpe, it’s also the reason why he never had kids with his now ex-partner.

Odam was a guest on Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, where he directly asked Lamar why he never got kids with Khloe. The reason? The drugs he was using at the time.

Shannon: “Why didn’t y’all have kids?”

Odom: “I was getting high. Like my sperm was probably way off track. But I was definitely– I was in there, you know what I’m saying?”

Odom played 14 seasons in the NBA, and it’s hard not to call his career a success. While he was never considered a top-tier player, Odom played his role and was able to stick around longer than most.

It’s a shame he had to crash and burn so hard there in the end, but let’s just appreciate how far he’s come and that he’s so open to talking about his storied past.
