Trash talking has always been part of basketball. There are definitely times when players decide to shoot some trash talk their opponents’ way after making a nice play or scoring a bucket.

Luka Doncic has recently made some comments about trash-talking in the NBA. It seems as though he’s entirely fine with talking trash with his opponents, and he claimed that it is “always gonna be there, especially in the playoffs.”

I think it’s still there. I think it’s always gonna be there… In the NBA, there’s always talking… Especially in that Clippers’ playoffs, there was a lot of talking. For me that just makes the game fun. Guys that are competitive, I’m very competitive. I think it’s always gonna be there, especially in the playoffs, it just makes the game fun.

There’s no doubt that trash talk can be fun for players, and it definitely brings a different kind of competitive edge to any given game. Luka Doncic has previously expressed an appreciation for Marcus Morris’ competitive trash talk, and called him one “hell of a defender”.

“He’s a hell of a player, hell of a defender. Trash talk is always there, and if it’s not, you’re not really competing. It’s going to be great,” Doncic said, via Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

When a player talks trash, the expectation is that they are able to back it up, and Luka Doncic definitely has the talent to do so. He is a smooth three-level scorer who is also a fantastic facilitator. He is a superstar at the age of 23, and the sky is the limit for Luka Doncic.

The Dallas Mavericks are currently the 4th seed in the Western Conference, and they have been a dangerous team over this second half of the season. Hopefully, they are able to make a deep playoff run this season.
