LeBron James is one of the best players in the world. Even as he nears his 37th birthday, LeBron James is still playing at a high level. The Los Angeles Lakers have been extremely inconsistent without him, and LeBron James' huge impact on the team is clear.

Former Laker Metta Sandiford-Artest has recently claimed that LeBron James is the MVP as of this point in the season. James is currently averaging 26.3 PPG, 6.1 RPG, and 7.1 APG. Those are certainly MVP numbers on an individual level, and there's no denying that he is playing like a player of that caliber, even if some believe that he is no longer the best player in the world.

Despite the fact that LeBron James is putting up great numbers this year, there are certainly arguments against him being the MVP right now. For starters, the Los Angeles Lakers are only 6th in the Western Conference and only two games above .500. If the season finished today, there's no doubt that a player like Kevin Durant or Stephen Curry would win the award due to their teams being better position than the Lakers.

Another factor that suggests LeBron James isn't currently the MVP is him missing time with injury. Nikola Jokic notably won the MVP last season due to him being able to bring the Denver Nuggets to a 3rd seed despite team injuries, but another factor that worked in his favor was that he played all 72 games of the season, as compared to Joel Embiid, who had a better-seeded team but missed a lot of games. LeBron James has missed 12 games this season.

With that being said, it's quite possible that LeBron James does win the MVP in the future. Every year is different, and it's obvious that LeBron James is still among the top candidates for the award. If the Los Angeles Lakers improve in the standings, it's possible that we see James win his 5th MVP award.
