Mo Bamba Got Waived By Jazz, Friend Clowned Him With Savage Unemployment Joke

Waived by Utah Jazz, Mo Bamba’s viral moment comes courtesy of his savage friend’s joke.

Mo Bamba’s NBA career has taken him through plenty of ups and downs, but nothing prepared him for the roast he got from one of his closest friends. The 7-footer shared on a Twitch stream that after being waived by the Utah Jazz earlier this year, his buddy Sean decided to clown him in the most brutal way possible, by sending him an unemployment link.

“I’m waived from Utah. And this is when I was probably just going to go to another, I was going to go right to another team. Feel me? It’s whatever. But like, it was like a week span of where we was trying to figure out which other team I was going to go to.”

“This nigga Sean is an asshole. This nigga going to send me, this nigga going to send me an unemployment link, bro.”

The moment instantly blew up online, with fans laughing at the savage timing of the joke. For Bamba, the timing of the waiver was tough, he’d just been dealt from the Los Angeles Clippers to Utah at the deadline, only for the Jazz to cut him the next day. After a month, he landed a 10-day contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, suiting up for four games before heading back into free agency.

It’s not the first time Bamba has gone viral for something off the court.

In the past, he’s cracked jokes of his own, famously taking a jab at Joel Embiid over sitting out back-to-back games by saying, “I’m not Joel.”

Between his internet moments and his unique personality, Bamba has kept himself in the conversation even when minutes have been hard to come by.

On paper, Bamba has the tools to stick in the NBA. Standing at 7-feet tall with a massive wingspan, he came into the league with the reputation of a rim protector and floor spacer. He was seen as a franchise cornerstone at the time.

But inconsistency and injuries slowed his development. In five seasons with Orlando, he averaged 7.7 points and 5.8 rebounds, while flashing moments of brilliance that never quite turned into sustained production.

Since then, he has bounced between teams, including short stints with the Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Clippers. Across 2024-25, he played 28 games for the Clippers, averaging 4.6 points and 4.3 rebounds, before his brief Pelicans stint.

Overall, his career numbers sit at 6.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 47.7 percent shooting from the field.

For now, though, the story isn’t about his numbers, it’s about his friend Sean, who might have earned “roast of the year” honors with one link.

Getting waived stings, but having your buddy hit you with unemployment paperwork might sting even more. Luckily, Bamba seems to be taking it all in stride, laughing through the situation and sharing it with fans.

If nothing else, the viral moment proves one thing: Mo Bamba might not be sure where he’ll play next, but he’ll always have friends making sure he doesn’t take himself too seriously. And honestly, in a league where drama often turns ugly, sometimes the best stories are just about a friend being a little too quick with the jokes.
