Patrick Beverley was arrested in Texas last week on a felony family violence charge after police say he choked and struck his 15-year-old sister during an argument at their home in Fort Bend County. According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by TMZ Sports, the incident happened early Friday morning and escalated quickly once Beverley arrived at the house.

Deputies say Beverley’s mother called him after the girl left the home late at night to meet her boyfriend at a nearby park. When she returned, Beverley reportedly confronted her, and the situation turned physical. The affidavit states that the girl told investigators that Beverley grabbed her by the neck with both hands and lifted her off the floor for roughly 20 to 30 seconds.

She said she struggled to breathe and felt pain in her neck. She also said he carried her by the throat into another room and eventually punched her once in the left eye.

Deputies noted marks on her neck and petechiae in her eyes, which are small, burst blood vessels often seen in strangulation cases. Police arrested Beverley at the home and booked him on a charge of assault of a family member by impeding breath or circulation, a third-degree felony in Texas.

He was released on a $40,000 bond later that day. As part of his release, he cannot contact the victim, must stay 1,000 feet from the home, surrender any firearms and comply with random drug and alcohol testing.

His attorney released a statement saying Beverley found his underage sister with an 18-year-old boy and reacted out of concern, but disputed the details in the affidavit.

The case has not yet been formally accepted by the Fort Bend County District Attorney, meaning Beverly has not been indicted. His first scheduled court appearance is December 15.
