The sons of two former NBA stars find each other as teammates. Stephon Marbury II, the son of Stephon Marbury, and Andrej Stojakovic, the son of Peja Stojakovic, are both freshmen teammates at the University of California – Berkley.

Both players are young guards and will be looking to compete against each other to earn opportunities with the team. The fact that UC Berkley has welcomed the sons of not just one but two NBA legends is an incredible coincidence.

While neither Stojakovic nor Marbury were teammates in the NBA, they did play together in multiple NBA All-Star games, as both players earned All-Star credentials in the Western Conference – Marbury with the Suns and Peja with the Kings.

It will be interesting to see if both players earn minutes on the court together, or will have to compete with each other to get a chance.

Stojakovic is likely to have an advantage, as he is a sophomore who transferred from Stanford to Berkley, presumably in search of more minutes, whereas Marbury II hasn’t yet proven himself to the coaching staff.

Last season, while playing for Stanford, Andrej Stojakovic averaged 7.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.1 blocks. He made 34 three-pointers with the team, the 10th most three-pointers made by any freshman in Stanford history.

As for Stephon Marbury II, he will be entering the UC Berkley training facility with a lot to prove, and a lot of stiff competition ahead of him. But if he can persevere, work hard, and impress his coaches with his hustle and commitment, he will get the chance to play some valuable minutes this season.

He must have done something right, as he was able to impress the recruiters at UC Berkley enough for them to offer him a chance to attend their program and play basketball for them.

At 6’1″, Marbury II is undersized but has the potential to grow quite a bit as time goes on. Perhaps his growth spurt will come at a beneficial time for him during the college basketball season. But as of now, he will have to try and compete with Stojakovic, who is a whopping 6’7″ guard.

Of the two players, Peja is more likely to try and declare for the NBA Draft next year, having already played one year of college basketball, and not wanting to stick around longer than another year.

Perhaps one day we will be able to see the two young college teammates play together in the NBA, or even against each other. And on that day, much like one of their many games in college together, their legendary fathers will also be courtside.
