LeBron James made headlines this week after tagging Warriors star Stephen Curry as the modern-day player he wants to play with the most.
It happened in a recent episode of ‘The Shop’:
“In today’s game, Steph Curry. Steph Curry’s the one that I want to play with, for sure,” James said. “I love everything about that guy. When he gets out of his car, you better guard him right from the moment he pulls up to the arena….”
Of course, it’s highly unlikely that James will ever get that chance to join Steph (outside the All-Star game), but it’s an interesting statement nonetheless.
Perhaps even more interesting was Curry’s response, which was captured hours later in an appearance on 95.7 ‘The Game.’
“Well, he [LeBron] got his wish. He’s picked me the last 2 All-Star Games. I don’t know if that suffices, but I’m good right now. I’m good right now. I mean, whenever you get the interest or curiosity of what it would be like to play with, from an MVP caliber dude like he is, and one of the greatest of All-Time, cool. Like, that’s amazing. We all can live in that fantasy world.”

Steph didn’t sound too enthusiastic about the idea of teaming up with LeBron James. Why would he?
At 37-years-old, LeBron James and his Lakers are headed for a long and brutal offseason after not qualifying for the play-in. Who knows what might happen with that team over the next few months.
Meanwhile, the Warriors are back to being one of the NBA’s top teams. At 50-29 on the season, they sit 3rd in the West and are expected to make a deep playoff run.
As it stands, Curry doesn’t need James to be competitive. Even if he somehow did make his way to the Warriors, not everyone is convinced it would even work out.
“I don’t think it’d be good for Steph,” said John Salley on James and Curry teamming up. “But for Steph Curry to come here and share the court with LeBron, there’s not enough room. There’s not enough basketballs for Steph to be on the same team. The games will be 165 points per game. Vegas would be happy. But Steph should retire in a Golden State jersey. Period.”
As two of the biggest faces in basketball, LeBron and Steph seem to have a ton of respect for each other. Over the past decade, they both have witnessed the other’s dominance first-hand.
But as much fun as it would be to see them play on the same side, it sounds like the All-Star game is the only time we’ll ever see it become a thing.
