During the 2010s era of basketball, the Golden State Warriors had a big rivalry with the Cleveland Cavaliers. That rivalry was one of the best sports rivalries in the modern age, with LeBron James and Stephen Curry facing off many times against one another in the Finals.

LeBron James failed to make the playoffs this year, and many have already roasted the Los Angeles Lakers for getting eliminated from playoff contention. Steve Kerr himself has recently taken what he categorized as a “subtle jab” at LeBron James, roasting him for not making the playoffs. The context for this quote is Steve Kerr talking about the necessity of guarding big wings in the playoffs, such as LeBron James.

You know when you get in the playoffs and you need to guard, name it, Paul George or LeBron, well, not this year. Sorry, I didn’t mean that, just a subtle jab.”

The Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers are two franchises that are in drastically different positions. The Los Angeles Lakers ended up missing the postseason entirely despite their attempt at a win-now move for Russell Westbrook prior to the beginning of the season, while the Golden State Warriors look to be competing for an NBA championship this season. Some even have them winning it all.

It remains to be seen how far the Golden State Warriors and Steve Kerr end up getting in the postseason. Klay Thompson is finally back, and they have a very deep squad with some versatile players. It is easy to see them making a deep run if Stephen Curry returns at 100% from his knee injury.

As for LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, they still have some ways to go if they want to be a competitive team next season. Hopefully, they are able to make the required changes and put a better-fitting roster around LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
