Zion Williamson Almost Didn’t Declare For 2019 NBA Draft

We have yet to see 2019 #1 overall pick Zion Williamson take the court this season. After a pre-season injury scare ruled him out for the first few months, no official return date has been set.

According to Williamson himself, though, he almost didn’t join the league at all. In a revelation on the J.J. Redick podcast, Zion revealed that he almost went back to Duke for a second season.

Apparently, Zion loved his experience at Duke so much that he considered a return until his family and friends convinced him otherwise. In his words “the NBA wasn’t going anywhere.”

Still, you never know what’s going to happen. Had Zion suffered the same injuries as we’re seeing this season in New Orleans, it might have impact his chances of going pro in the 2020 Draft or beyond.

In the end, he decided that reaching this milestone was just too important to postpone, even if it meant leaving behind something he adored. And while his Rookie season has been anything but smooth sailing, it’s hard to say he didn’t make the right decision.

As the world eagerly awaits his debut, they will continue to watch and hope for a speedy and quick recovery for the young superstar. He has already made so many waves in the basketball community.
