NBA Rumors: Philadelphia 76ers Are “Monitoring” Rajon Rondo’s Situation With Memphis Grizzlies

The Philadelphia 76ers need to make some changes to their roster ahead of next season, even if Ben Simmons is still on the 76ers come training camp. It looks as though there is potential that the Philadelphia 76ers could get a point guard with whom head coach Doc Rivers is very familiar with.

It has been revealed by NBA insider Austin Krell that the Philadelphia 76ers are “monitoring” what will happen with Rajon Rondo and the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies notably have more players than the roster limit, and there’s no question that there will be some players who will end up being waived or traded. Rajon Rondo could be one of them, and that could be a good opportunity for the Philadelphia 76ers to try and get the point guard.

There will certainly be no shortage of teams that would target Rajon Rondo if he were to get a buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies. The Los Angeles Lakers have recently been rumored as suitors for Rondo, and he has experience playing with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The 76ers will definitely have competition when vying for his services.

Rajon Rondo would certainly be a good veteran addition to the 76ers, and his championship experience could come in handy for a 76ers team that is trying to get over the hump. While he likely wouldn’t play a huge role, the opportunity to play for his former coach in Doc Rivers could entice Rondo to join the 76ers. His playmaking is still as sharp as ever, and with the shooters like Seth Curry, he’ll likely thrive. Of course, the pre-requisite to any team getting Rondo as a free agent would be a buyout from the Memphis Grizzlies. That is a possibility, and we’ll see if the Philadelphia 76ers do manage to get the veteran point guard.
