The Brooklyn Nets Could Trade For DeMar DeRozan This Summer

2 Min Read

It’s no secret that the Brooklyn Nets are looking for another star this summer. Despite the imminent returns of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the team wants more. But, sadly, it won’t be easy to find

This summer’s free-agent market doesn’t have a lot to offer and not many teams are willing to trade a high-valued star for cheap.

One possible name that the Nets could consider? DeMar DeRozan of the San Antonio Spurs. According to Collin Loring of Fansided’s Hoops Habit, he could become a trade target for Brooklyn in the 2020 offseason.

“DeRozan may be the better of the two available if the Nets hire a coach that’s up to the challenge of finding his fit on an already complex roster. He posted 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and one steal per game this season in San Antonio. And somehow, most advanced stats would suggest the Spurs were better with him off the floor. But DeRozan’s pedigree as a key member of a Toronto Raptors team that won 50+ or more games in his last three seasons at the helm. The fit in San Antonio was funky to start, but the Spurs won’t going to be the team that traded Kawhi Leonard for nothing in return.”

DeRozan may not be a tier-1 star, but his skill set may be an ideal fit next to Durant and Irving.

Averaging 22 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game on 52% shooting, he is a bonafide scorer who makes his living under the rim and in the mid-range. At 30-years-old, he is still in his prime and is hungry for a chance at true team success.

Perhaps a package of Garrett Temple, DeAndre Jordan, and Spencer Dinwiddie would get the job done? It’ll be interesting to see what they come up within the months to come.
