Only Possible Scenario For The Warriors To Create Superteam With Stephen Curry, LeBron James And Kevin Durant

The Warriors have held the dream of creating a superteam with Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant but they can finally realize that goal this summer by focusing on one possible scenario.

At this point in their legendary careers, Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant joining forces seems like a dream cooked up by NBA fans who refuse to let go of the aging legends. But what if it wasn’t just a dream? What if the Golden State Warriors found a way to pull off the greatest superteam in basketball history?

Make no mistake, this scenario is highly unlikely. In fact, if Doctor Strange ran 10,000,000 simulations of the 2024-25 NBA season, there might only be one reality where Curry, LeBron, and Durant actually end up on the same team. But here’s the thing—the NBA is unpredictable, and this season’s chaos could set the stage for a once-in-a-lifetime alliance of generational superstars.

Reports have already surfaced that the Warriors explored the idea of bringing these three legends together before ultimately shifting their focus to acquiring Jimmy Butler at the trade deadline. Even Stephen Curry was forced to respond about this scenario and it was more than eye-opening, to say the least. That means Golden State’s front office still believes there’s a way to make it happen this summer.

This could be the last shot for these icons to team up before Father Time catches up to them once and for all. If the dominoes (including playoff failures and fed-up superstars) fall perfectly, we might just see Curry, LeBron, and KD donning the same jersey next season. Let’s dive into the one scenario where it actually happens.

Kevin Durant Is Done With The Suns

For months, speculation has swirled about Kevin Durant’s future in Phoenix, and the writing is now on the wall. Whether Suns fans want to admit it or not, his time with the franchise is coming to an end

Despite initially rejecting the chance to return to Golden State before the trade deadline, Durant has since left the door open for a reunion with Stephen Curry this summer and even showed some love to Warriors fans after rejecting them. He’s spoken highly of Curry in recent interviews, and the Warriors are still keeping tabs on his situation.

Phoenix’s front office, meanwhile, has already entertained offers for the 15-time All-Star, a sign that they are bracing for a possible trade request. The reality is the Suns’ season has been a disaster.

Currently sitting 11th in the West with a 27-31 record, Phoenix is trending toward missing the playoffs entirely, an unthinkable scenario for a team with championship expectations. While injuries have played a role in a small part, the bigger issue is that the roster construction is flawed, and Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal simply don’t fit together as well as the front office hoped.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that the Suns need to pivot fast—Durant will be 37 in a couple of months, and there’s little reason to keep him if the team isn’t a serious contender. Trading him for a massive haul of draft picks and young assets would be the smart move, allowing them to build around Booker as the franchise centerpiece while also trying to move Beal’s contract (which should also be a priority this offseason).

If Durant is officially on the trade block, Golden State is one of the most realistic destinations. Not only has Durant softened on the idea of reuniting with Curry, but the Warriors could put together a strong offer to acquire him. If the Warriors flame out early in the play-in or playoffs, they could weigh swapping Jimmy Butler, Brandin Podziemski, and a 2031 first-round pick for Durant.

The Suns admired Butler’s two-way ability before the trade deadline this season, and they could see him as a short-term star alongside Booker while adding a valuable young guard in Podziemski. This would be the easiest and most logical path toward forming a Curry-LeBron-Durant superteam, with the only remaining step being to bring LeBron into the fold—a scenario that isn’t as far-fetched as it seems.

LeBron To Warriors Is Almost Mission Impossible

On the surface, the idea of LeBron James leaving the Los Angeles Lakers seems impossible. After all, the Lakers just landed Luka Doncic to pair with him, giving LeBron a superstar running mate for the twilight of his career. It seems the chemistry between them has gone very well so far.

Add in Austin Reaves’ continued development and the Lakers’ stockpile of assets for a potential trade to acquire a long-term center like Myles Turner or Nic Claxton, and there’s little reason for James to jump ship. He’s happy in Los Angeles, and with a strong record since acquiring Luka, the Lakers have firmly positioned themselves as a title favorite. Even LeBron himself has made it clear—his focus is on winning with Luka as the new number one option, not chasing another new team.

But the Western Conference is a brutal battlefield. No matter how great LeBron and Luka look together with the 35-21 Lakers, the Oklahoma City Thunder (46-11) and Denver Nuggets (38-20) remain the teams to beat. If the Lakers suffer an early playoff exit, the frustration could set in, and James does have a player option this summer.

That means all it could take is one disappointing ending—an injury, a tough Game 7 loss, or simply the realization that Luka, not LeBron, is the new face of the franchise—for him to consider a shocking move. That’s where the Warriors’ long-standing dream of a Curry-LeBron-Durant Big 3 could suddenly become realistic.

If Golden State lands Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry (and KD) could sit down with James and pitch him on a last-chance superteam – about saving the NBA itself from an era dominated by excessive three-point chucking and analytics-driven basketball.

If LeBron wanted to leave as he has a $52.6 million player option after this season, Golden State would be ready. The Warriors have the cap flexibility and could execute a sign-and-trade, sending Jonathan Kuminga (sign-and-trade as well), Moses Moody, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and the 2028 first-round pick to Los Angeles.

But that’s not all—Golden State could go the extra mile by acquiring Bronny James to show LeBron how much they want him (and maybe even offer him a five-year max extension to stay in the Bay until he’s 45).

With Curry also due for a massive contract extension, the Warriors would officially become the undisputed No. 1 team in the NBA—a dynasty reborn. LeBron has strong chemistry with both Curry and Durant and with the Lakers fully committing to Luka, this could be the final nudge he needs to start fresh in Golden State for one last legendary run.

Warriors Big 3 – Curry, LeBron, And Durant Could Save The NBA

If Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant joined forces in Golden State, this trio would immediately become the biggest attraction in sports. The NBA has seen a decline in ratings in recent years, with fans becoming disenchanted by load management, inconsistent officiating, and a lack of true dynasties.

But a Warriors superteam featuring three of the greatest players in history would reignite passion for the game. Basketball has always thrived on iconic rivalries and legendary eras—Magic Johnson and Larry Bird revived the league in the 1980s, Michael Jordan took it to new heights in the 1990s, and Kobe Bryant kept the torch burning in the 2000s.

But the modern NBA lacks that defining force, that transcendent storyline. A Curry-LeBron-Durant alliance would give the league a new golden era, one that would bring back competitive fire, raise the level of play, and create must-watch TV every single night.

This is about saving the soul of the NBA. With all three superstars approaching the end of their careers, this could be their last chance to leave an unforgettable legacy together. If the Warriors pull off the impossible and unite this historic trio, they will restore the NBA’s greatness. With this trio, the Warriors would almost certainly win the 2025-26 championship while likely breaking viewership records in the process.
